WHAT IS AN ORTHODONTIST

An orthodontist is a dental specialist who has had the following training: four years of college followed by four years of dental school after which 2-3 years of a full time orthodontic residency program in a university affiliated setting is completed. While many dentists incorporate orthodontics in their general practices, only board eligible or board certified practitioners in orthodontics may call themselves orthodontists and limit their practices to their trained specialty
